Every week we will be sharing an inspirational figure from Latin America, someone who we think you deserve to know about. Our aim is to spread the creativity and passion for their subject and hopefully inspire you as well ! This week we chose the Chilean photographer Matias Javier.
Matias Javier is a Chilean photographer from Santiago. These are some of his beautiful and striking photographs from the protests which have paralysed the South American nation over the past week. Initially, the unrest was triggered by an increase in the price of the metro, however there were many other factors that came into play regarding Chile’s unequal society, exacerbated by years of neoliberal policies. On Friday, the country experienced its largest demonstration in history, with over 1 million Chileans demanding change. You cannot defeat the power of the people.
“Photography is an important art form to me because in an image with no movement you can express many different things, as they say, images speak for themselves. In a photo there are feelings, there is history, there is love. The camera is our painting brush.”
